Friends of the Children is a revolutionary mentoring organization which fosters high academic achievement and strong character development of children from at-risk and underserved communities. Gary Mikula has been a Director of the organization for six years and currently serves as its Treasurer.

    Rob O’Neil recently was approved for membership in the Boston Estate Planning Council.  Established in 1930, the Boston Estate Planning Council is an association organized to provide educational programs and networking opportunities for estate planning professionals in the community.

    Rina K. Jha joined Birch Hill as an equity analyst.  Rina has worked as an analyst for fifteen years, most recently at Fidelity Management and Putnam Investments.  She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.  We are all very pleased to welcome Rina.

    Birch Hill was a sponsor of The Boston Conservatory’s 2010 gala.  Proceeds from the event were used to fund scholarships for Conservatory students.  Founded in 1867, The Boston Conservatory is a leading college of music, dance and theatre.  Gary Mikula has been a Trustee of The Conservatory since 1995.

    Tom Reilly was named to the Board of Directors of St. Francis House.  For the past 25 years St. Francis House has served the poor and homeless of Boston by providing food, clothing, medical care, counseling and related services.

    Robert O’Neil was elected to the board of directors of the Louisa May Alcott Memorial Association/Orchard House. Located in Concord, Massachusetts the Orchard House was the home of the Alcott family, where Louisa May Alcott wrote and set Little Women.

    Birch Hill was again a sponsor for Crossroads For Kids Harvest Moon Festival, an annual fund raising event.  With summer camp programs as the starting point, Crossroads (originally known as Boys and Girls Camps) has provided life-changing experiences and year-round support to at-risk children and teens for the past 75 years.  Tom Reilly has been a trustee of Crossroads since 1992.

    Tom Reilly was a panelist at the Boston Security Analyst Society seminar “Thinking about Starting Your Own Advisory Firm?” This well attended session was an opportunity for practitioners who had started their own firms to share some of their experiences.

    Robert O’Neil joined the investment committee for the Foundation for Metrowest. Founded in 1995, the Foundation for Metrowest is a philanthropic organization supporting work in human services, environment, youth development and arts and culture in communities in the MetroWest Boston area.

    Barron’s magazine named Gary Mikula as one of the country’s top 100 Independent Advisors. This is the second year that Gary was included on Barron’s list.
